Wilderness 2017

Festival guide

If lukewarm lager, congealed noodles and leaky tents all add to the charm of festivals for you, you’ll probably want to give Wilderness a swerve. Set in the gorgeous grounds of Oxfordshire’s Cornbury Park between the 3rd and 6th of August, Wilderness promises boutique camping, plus artisan wines and catering from top chefs. Check out what’s on the musical menu below.

    Bonobo

More than a decade and a half since his debut, Animal Magic, Simon Green is currently enjoying the best reviews of his career for his latest full-length. Putting a unique spin on the subject of “life as a touring musician”, Migration finds Green subtly interpolating musical details from his travels, creating percussive yet spacious downtempo electronica, intermittently adorned with vocals via the likes of Nick “Chet Faker” Murphy and Rhye’s Mike Milosh. Get set to hear selected highlights on Saturday.

    Cosmo Pyke

As impressive debuts go, Cosmo Pyke getting his break by starring in a Frank Ocean video takes some beating. Since his turn in the 2016 promo for ‘Nikes’, the London-based teenager has been focused on his own musical career, culminating in the release of his debut EP, back in February. If you’re into Mac DeMarco or King Krule, his sun-dappled, slacker-pop should hit the spot nicely. Catch him and his woozy melodies on The Love Hotel stage on Friday, just after Jerkcurb.

    Aurora

Though huge enough back home to headline major festivals, this Norwegian singer-songwriter is still probably best known in the UK for the Oasis cover she recorded for John Lewis’ 2015 Christmas advert. If that’s the sum total of your Aurora knowledge, you can - and should - rectify that by heading to her show at Wilderness. Set to play the Main Stage on Friday, Aurora will be performing songs from her haunting debut, All My Demons Greeting Me As A Friend, and showcasing her truly spine-tingling vocals.
