7digital What we said: If you’ve heard Long Way Down – or even just its big single ‘Another Love’ – you might think you’ve got the measure of Tom Odell already. To some extent you’d be correct; earnest, piano-led pop remains at the root of the Chichester-born singer’s second album too. Where the Jim Abbiss-produced Wrong Crowd differs, however, is in the scope of Odell’s ambition, as evidenced in reference points like Terrence Malick and Ernest Hemingway, and an expanded sonic palette of upbeat synth riffs and lush strings. It’s a subtle evolution, but one that should continue to keep established fans engaged.
