7digital What we said: There’s no escaping the fact that there are some pretty striking similarities between Jamie Woon and James Blake, both being BBC Sound of 2011-endorsed, self-producing solo-artists with dubstep connections. But whilst the latter pursues the avant-garde, IDM route to infamy, Woon has chosen to showcase his silky-smooth vocals and strong pop-sensibility with Mirrorwriting, which effortlessly straddles the divide between electronica and soul. Featuring the glorious, understated groove of Burial co-produced debut single ‘Night Air’ and the irresistible, click-laden R&B of ‘Lady Luck’, there’s more than enough evidence here that whilst Blake might have beaten him in the release race, he’s certainly not stolen Woon’s thunder.
