Fact: this London-based four-piece are one of the best guitar bands in Britain right now, and they’re arguably even more compelling live. Fact: the quartet’s second album, Adore Life, is one of the finest records of 2016 so far, mixing bursts of vicious, break-neck punk with brooding, expansive melancholia. Fact: you 6 Music Festival-goers will have the opportunity to see them tear up the Main Room at Motion on Friday, 12th February, right after Roots Manuva. Brothers Peter and David Brewis are far too self-effacing to shout about how brilliant they are, but we’ll happily oblige on their behalf. For the past 12 years, the Sunderland-based siblings have quietly released a succession of fantastic albums, both as Field Music and via solo projects The Week That Was and School Of Language. Now back under their Field Music moniker, the duo are currently promoting their excellent new LP Commontime. Hear their unique mix of prog-pop, art-rock and funk at Motion on Saturday.

Alongside fellow trip-hop trailblazers Massive Attack, Adrian Thaws remains one of Bristol’s biggest musical exports. More than 20 years on from his seminal debut Maxinquaye, Tricky has lost none of his power to enthral. For his latest LP, Skilled Mechanics, he collaborated with long-time pals DJ Milo and Luke Harris, to create a set that pairs candid accounts of personal struggle with suitably ominous sonics.
