7digital What we said: It’s proving another golden year for Brainfeeder, thanks to several of Stephen Ellison’s “Class of 2011” putting on a strong showing. Following Samiyam and Matthewdavid’s example, Stephen Bruner is the latest to send the critics scrabbling for superlatives, having temporarily swapped fulfilling bass duties for thrash-metallers Suicidal Tendencies for deftly fusing broken beats and jazz-funk on this, his innovative debut. Whilst it’s not quite the sonic U-turn it appears to be (Bruner contributed bass to Ellison’s Cosmogramma and has toured with Erykah Badu, amongst others), The Golden Age of Apocalypse still displays the kind of imaginative thought processes beyond the synapses of most mortals.
