7digital What we said: Discussing the creative goals for their third album, Vaccines-frontman Justin Hayward-Young told the NME, “I started to feel being timeless isn't a good thing. I wanted to make a record that sounded like 2015.” Ironically, English Graffiti opens with ‘Handsome’, a burst of punk-pop so textbook-Vaccines it could have been culled from their 2011 debut (which in turn was unabashedly in thrall to The Ramones.) Happily, things get more surprising the deeper you delve. Early standouts include the loose groove of ‘Want You So Bad’ and closing instrumental ‘Undercover’, both of which channel the layered, psychedelic sound with which English Graffiti-producer – and long-time Flaming Lips collaborator – Dave Fridmann made his name.
