7digital What we said: When ManMakeMusic boss George FitzGerald announced he was joining the ranks at Domino, the sound of the faithful collectively scratching their heads was almost audible. Hearing his debut for the label’s Double Six imprint, the alliance suddenly makes a lot more sense. Signifying a step away from the club sensibility that informed those early releases for Hotflush, Hypercolour and Aus Music, Fading Love finds the Berlin-based DJ and producer exploring the idea of romantic disillusionment using a suitably muted and soulful palette of sounds. The beats are still there, of course – and the crepuscular techno of ‘Shards’ emerges as an immediate stand-out – but the overall mood is more melancholic than euphoric.
