7digital What we said: Two years on from the Ivor Novello-winning Arc, Everything Everything are back with another maximalist art-pop opus. Jamming in a dozen different genres and more ideas than a brainstorming session at a Mensa meet-up, Get To Heaven could quickly feel pretty muddled. The fact it doesn’t is down to the steadying influence of Madonna and Pet Shop Boys-producer Stuart Price, and the quality of the quartet’s writing. Corruption, war and the sinister influence of technology are just a few of the topics put under the microscope, and Jonathan Higgs’ visceral imagery is accentuated by more typically atypical song structures. In a career characterised by invention, Get To Heaven still stands out as the four-piece’s most audacious artistic statement yet.
