7digital What we said: Before they broke through with Bad Blood, Bastille were best known for their free mixtapes interpolating film dialogue with original music. As band-leader and founding member Dan Smith has recently explained, the mission for Wild World was to recapture the spirit of those tapes, further exploring that bricolage-like artistic approach and doing so totally unshackled by public or record label expectations. Happily, the band have managed to scratch their creative itch without sacrificing melody. Combining the genre-hopping and cinematic samples of their early work with the slick production, smooth vocals and chart-friendly hooks of their debut, Wild World offers fans the best of both worlds.
